HAROLD AND MAUDE (1972) ****

This offbeat cult comedy classic about a suicide obsessed teen named Harold (who drives a hearse) played by Bud (Bates Motel) Cort who falls in love with an octogenarian free spirit named Maude (Rosemary’s Baby’s Ruth Gordon) is a real treat and requires repeat viewings. The performances by the two leads are great, as is Cort’s frequent suicide “reenactments”. Even the constant Cat Stevens music is pretty good too. My favorite part is Harold and Maude’s war protest involving his one armed general uncle. Directed by Hal (Let’s Spend the Night Together) Ashby.
