Douglas Adams’ cult novel has been lovingly brought to the screen by director Garth Jennings. Fans of the book will eat it up. Everything’s here from the singing dolphins, to Marvin the Paranoid Android (voiced by Alan Rickman), to “42”. Non-fans can enjoy the dry humor, the great special effects and the eclectic performances from Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Zooey Deschanel, Mos Def and John Malkovich. It starts out great (Earth is blown up to make room for a new galactic highway), but it also drags in spots and some of the over the top characters and effects wear out their welcome fast. The late Adams also co-wrote the script.
