HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1959) ****

Vincent Price stars in one of director William Castle’s best films as a millionaire who has a party in a haunted house and offers his guests $10,000 if they can survive through the night. This campy mix of ghoulish fun and genuine chills (That creepy floating old woman is freaky!) was one gimmickmeister Castle’s biggest hits. His gimmick for this movie was called “Emerg-O” and when the skeleton rises out of the vat of acid in the final reel, a real skeleton would come out and fly over the audience! As much fun as this movie is, Castle and Price’s next collaboration, The Tingler is even better! Screenwriter Robb White also wrote Castle’s 13 Ghosts. This was later remade in 1999 by director William (Creature) Malone.
