At first glance you might think that this is just another generic slasher movie from the 80’s. Well it is, but it’s one with a pedigree. It was written and directed by Scott Spiegel who co-wrote Evil Dead 2. It also features that film’s director, Sam Raimi as well as its stars Bruce Campbell, Danny Hicks and Ted Raimi in supporting roles and was produced by Lawrence Bender, who would later go on to produce Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. The premise is simple: A killer stalks the workers of a grocery store after closing time. Spiegel shows some directorial flair and KNB provides some juicy gore effects (unless you watch the butchered R rated version that is) that includes people being cut in half, heads getting crushed, meat hook impalings, and a pretty funny scene in which the killer uses a severed head to beat someone up. It’s your typical slasher movie more or less but if you’re a Raimi or Campbell fan (like me) you’ll definitely want to check it out. Co-starring Renee (Sleepaway Camp 2) Estevez and Three Stooges straight man Emil Sitka. Spiegel went on to co-write The Rookie the next year.
