Five years after winning the Oscar for Best Actress in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Louise Fletcher starred in this embarrassing spoof of vampire movies. She stars as “Countess Dracula”, but is clearly based on the legend of Elizabeth Bathory, who bathed in the blood of virgins to keep herself eternally young. Her vampire henchmen smuggle her fresh virgins from department store dressing rooms. (Of course by the late 70’s it was kind of hard to find a virgin). Maria (Last Tango in Paris) Schneider co-stars as a cop. The lame jokes involve a girl’s bosom that’s so big that it produces echoes, twin vampires, and vampire psychotherapy. I guess they were trying to go for a Young Frankenstein type spoof. I say “guess” because I didn’t laugh once. It doesn’t help that Fletcher is woefully miscast, too old and unsexy in the lead. There is a good amount of virgin flesh on display, but that’s not enough to make you want to sit through the woefully inane comedy.
