This uneven outing of Showtime’s top rated horror cable series has an atheist medical student following in the footsteps of Frankenstein as he tries to discover a way to bring the dead back to life. He gets more than her bargained for when he meets a necromancer and a strange couple who live next to a decrepit cemetery. The first half of this episode is slow and uninvolving, but it features an ending you have to see to believe: A ZOMBIE GANGBANG! That is, if you can make it past the hokey sub-Masterpiece Theater performances. Director John (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) McNaughton has done better, but then again, he really knows how to film a zombie gangbang. The script was written by series creator Mick Garris and based on a story by Clive Barker. At various times it was to be directed by Roger Corman and George Romero, but after they both dropped out, McNaughton stepped in. The next and final episode, “Imprint” by Takashi (Audition) Miike was considered “too gruesome” for TV and was never shown (PUSSIES!) but should see the light of day on DVD.
