In this sequel/retread to Meet the Parents, Ben Stiller takes Teri Polo and her parents Robert DeNiro and Blythe Danner down to Florida to meet his hippie Jewish parents, the Fockers, played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand. The usual sitcom level hijinks ensue. The funniest scene has DeNiro, suspicious that Stiller fathered a child with the maid, injecting him with truth serum right before he gives a speech at his pre-wedding party. Hoffman and DeNiro are good (they were also in Wag the Dog together) and the usually annoying Streisand gets some laughs playing a sex therapist. As with the original, it’s pretty lightweight, with plenty of chuckles, but no big belly laughs. Owen Wilson, who was funny in the first movie, has a cameo near the end. Since Polo gets pregnant in this one, I’m sure we’ll get Meet the Little Focker sooner or later. Jay Roach, who also did the first film, directed.
