This Hammer co-production isn’t really a horror movie, but a fun adventure set in the 18th century. A priest (Peter Cushing) of a small colonial town dupes the King’s soldiers, who suspect him of being a smuggler. He’s actually the notorious Captain Clegg, who dresses himself and his men (along with their horses too) in cool looking skeleton costumes to scare off the soldiers. “The Marsh Phantoms” as they’re called, use Oliver Reed (who dresses up as a scarecrow) to be their lookout man, and smuggle wine in coffins. It’s talky and drags in spots, but Cushing and Reed are good and the skeleton costumes rock.
