As a young girl, Jennie Linden saw her mother go crazy and commit murder. She grows up and has dreams of being with her dead mother in a padded cell. Her husband and his lover drive her crazy by making her think that she sees the ghost of her mum. Once she gets thrown in the booby hatch, the couple’s newly wedded bliss sours when they start seeing the “ghost” too. The scene where Linden wigs out and stabs someone at her birthday party is pretty great, but this is fairly predictable (and boring) stuff. Screenwriter Jimmy Sangster also wrote The Crawling Eye.
