The Coen Brothers wrote and directed this fun variation of the Odyssey set in the Depression Era South. George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson are fugitives from a chain gang that come across a variety of eccentric characters as they make their way to stop Clooney’s wife (Holly Hunter) from re-marrying. Along the way, they get involved with Babyface Nelson, a crazy one eyed Bible salesman, the KKK, and still have time to record a hit record (as the Soggy Bottom Boys). Everyone in the cast is great, but Clooney is the standout, as the leader of the trio who has a Dapper Dan Hair Wax fetish. I’d put it in between The Big Lebowski and Fargo as my second favorite Coen Brothers movie. The soundtrack was a huge hit.
