In this absorbing comedy/drama, Charlie (Mickey Rourke) has to set his dreams aside to look after his perpetual fuck up cousin Paulie (Eric Roberts). The plot is strictly a Mean Streets rehash, but the acting elevates it. Rourke is great, but Roberts is amazing. His twitchy, over the top performance will have you quoting and imitating him for days. When the bookies collect his gambling debt by cutting off his thumb, his overacting goes through the roof. “Chaw-lee dey took my THUMB!” Also starring Darryl Hannah and Burt Young. Director Stuart Rosenberg also directed the original Amityville Horror.
