SHOCK WAVES (1977) ***

Passengers of an ill fated cruise wash up on Peter Cushing’s island and are menaced by amphibious Nazi Zombies in this interesting low budget chiller. The film, directed by the man who gave us Return of the Living Dead 2, Ken Weiderhorn, takes it’s time getting going, but once the zombies make their entrance, look out. The scenes of the zombies rising from the ocean depths are still as cool now as they were in 1977. Often imitated, never duplicated, this film was among the first in the Nazi Zombie subgenre and while it’s only rated PG, it still has some scares and memorable imagery. Just remember: If you’re ever chased by a Nazi Zombie, he’s powerless without his designer goggles! Flipper’s Luke Halpin leads the cast which includes Brooke (The Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake) Adams and John (The Ice Pirates) Carradine as a grizzled seaman. Cushing also appeared in Star Wars the same year.
