BADA$$ MOTHAF**KAS! (2013) ***

Fred Williamson hosts this compilation of Blaxploitation trailers from Charles Band’s GrindhouseFlix collection. As far as these things go, it’s pretty sweet. It may go on a bit too long (it’s 101 minutes), but there are plenty of great trailers here. Any fan of the Blaxploitation genre, Fred Williamson, or trailer compilations in general should definitely check it out.

The introduction scenes featuring Fred Williamson are a bit of a mixed bag. A lot of the comedy bits don’t work (like Fred roughing up one of the writers), but Fred is as cool as ever. The real reason to watch this is for the trailers (many of which were narrated by the great Adolph Caesar). They include: Hell Up in Harlem, Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song, Shaft, Slaughter, Slaughter’s Big Rip-Off, Hammer, Super Fly, Black Gunn, The Black Godfather, Black Shampoo, Truck Turner, Savage!, Willie Dynamite, TNT Jackson, Cleopatra Jones, Coffy, Foxy Brown, Sheba Baby, Dolemite, Black Samurai, That Man Bolt, The Human Tornado, Disco Godfather, Blacula, Blackenstein, Dr. Black Mr. Hyde, Scream Blacula Scream, Abby, The Thing with Two Heads, Sugar Hill, Boss, Black Rodeo, Take a Hard Ride, Soul Soldier, Three the Hard Way, The Mack, Black Samson, Bucktown, Cotton Comes to Harlem, Monkey Hustle, The Spook Who Sat By the Door, Three Tough Guys, and Zebra Force. If that alone isn’t reason enough to pick this up, I don’t know what is.

There are some repeats and holdovers from other collections, sure. However, there are enough new discoveries and genuine oddities to make it worth a look. While I’ve seen the Dolemite trailers many times on other compilations, I had never seen the trailer for Monkey Hustle (which co-stars Rudy Ray Moore) before, so that was cool. I think my favorite trailer though was for Black Rodeo, a documentary about African American cowboys that featured Woody Strode and Muhammad Ali! That trailer alone makes this worth a look.
