Julia Roberts flees from her abusive hubby Patrick Bergin by faking her death (by drowning) and starts her life anew with Kevin Anderson in Iowa. Bergin (who is excellent) eventually figures it all out and finds her. Director Joseph (The Stepfather) Ruben keeps things moving pretty fast so you don’t have to worry about all the plot holes and coincidences too much. Roberts’ charisma carries the film and helps save it from being the routine thriller it almost is. The Brown Eyed Girl mini-video is really out of place though. Bergin also played Robin Hood on TV the same year.
