Orson Welles directed and stars as a newlywed professor who’s actually a Nazi war criminal. Edward G. Robinson is the agent who’s on his trail and Loretta Young is Welles’ unbelieving young bride. All the leads are excellent and help maintain your interest when the plot slows. It’s no Citizen Kane but it does have it’s own rewards, including a pretty intense climax that’s pure Welles. This was Welles’ least favorite of his films that he directed, although it was his only film that was a box office success. Welles did Lady from Shanghai next.
