TOO LATE FOR TEARS (1949) ** ½

When a husband (Arthur Kennedy) and wife (Lizbeth Scott) come into a large chunk of money, it slowly tears them apart. Things get out of hand when a blackmailer comes snooping around for the dough and hubby is accidentally murdered. There’s some good tough dialogue (“What do I call you besides Stupid?”) and a few twists, but the film’s overlength eventually does it in. Screenwriter Roy Huggins also created The Fugitive.
