Sprawling documentary style film that shows the harsh realities of drug use, dealing, and smuggling and the seemingly futility of fighting against it. A perfect cast, expert direction, and a great script make for riveting entertainment. Michael Douglas is appointed head of drug enforcement for the U.S. government, but is unable to reach his drug addicted daughter. Don Cheadle and Luis Guzman play cops fighting a losing battle. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the wife of drug czar Steven Bauer, who is forced to take over her hubby’s illegal activities. Dennis Quaid is a greedy lawyer and Benicio Del Toro is excellent as a border cop who does the right thing. Soderbergh won the Oscar for his brilliant direction. A must see.
