TRESPASS (1992) *** ½

Bill Paxton and William Sadler are firemen looking for a stash of gold in an abandoned St. Louis factory. They inadvertently witness King James, the King of the Street (Ice T) murder a gang member. When James comes after them, they take his brother hostage. All James wants is his brother, but his gang schemes against him to steal the gold too.

Good performances and dynamite direction by Walter (The Warriors) Hill make this a great popcorn thriller. The action scenes (featuring a lot of people crashing through windows) are well done given the claustrophobic setting. The original title, The Looters, was changed and the release delayed due to the L.A. riots. The fact that there is a character named Video, who videotapes everything probably didn’t help either so soon after the Rodney King incident.

Also starring Ice Cube, Glenn Plummer and Tiny Lister. Writers Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale (the Back to the Future series) also wrote Tales from the Crypt Presents Bordello of Blood, which also featured Sadler.
