Mel Gibson’s performance is the best thing about this predictable, but amusing comedy. When Mel gets electrocuted in the tub, he’s suddenly able to hear women’s thoughts. The best scenes are when he uses his powers to bed Marisa Tomei, and help Judy Greer (in a touching performance) who has suicidal thoughts. He also uses his powers to steal ideas from his new boss (Helen Hunt) who he eventually falls in love with. The movie starts out great, but grinds to a halt once he loses his power. Then it becomes a predictable love story, complete with sappy ending. I guess Women Want a sappy ending but I wanted to see more of Mel acting like a bastard. The good (mostly female) supporting cast includes Alan Alda, Bette Midler, Lauren Holly, Valerie Perrine, Delta Burke, Ana Gastayer, and Lisa Edelstein.
