WHITE ZOMBIE (1932) ***

Bela Lugosi star in one of his most famous roles as a grave robber who controls zombies who work in his sugar mill and do his bidding. The film is atmospheric and creepy, especially the scenes in the graveyard and in his waterfront castle, and has an excellent score. Like most of Lugosi’s movies, it suffers whenever he isn’t onscreen. When he is though, there are lots of creepy close-ups of his eyes and hands. The producing/directing team of the Halperin brothers, Edward and Victor, did Supernatural the next year.
