BLACK MAMBA (1974) * ½

John Ashley starred in a lot of cheapie filmed in the Philippines horror movies during the 70’s.  This is one of them.  A voodoo priestess uses voodoo dolls and witchcraft to kill her enemies in a small Pilipino island.  They see a “vision” of the (fairly shoddy looking) Grim Reaper before they croak.  The highlight is autopsy scene that uses real autopsy footage of hearts and brains being sliced open.  Unfortunately the mood of the scene is ruined somewhat when just before the insert shots of the body being cut open, we see the “dead” actor clearly cough!  This flick also features exorcisms, satanic rituals and graverobbing.  If you’re wondering just where the hell the “black mamba” of the title is you’ll have to wait 76 minutes into the movie to see it.  During an outrageous dream sequence (which features a cameo by Satan), the titular snake is seen going up a woman’s coochie.  You’ll be shaking your head in disbelief if you haven’t already nodded off to sleep.  Best line of dialogue:  “What scared the shit out of the hunchback?”  “I don’t know but there has to be a scientific explanation.”
