Man, if you thought The Transporter 2 was off the hook, you should catch Jason Statham in this. It’s a hyperkinetic actioner in which he plays a hitman who gets poisoned with a drug that cuts off his adrenaline. The only way for him to stay alive is to keep his adrenaline pumping until he finds the thugs responsible so he can avenge his own death. (It’s kinda like Speed, except that Statham’s the bus.) He keeps himself alive by starting gang fights, drinking lots of energy drinks, snorting coke, electric shock and in the film’s best scene, boning his girlfriend (Amy Smart) in the middle of Chinatown. There’s also a great scene where Statham cuts off a gangster’s hand who then proceeds to bludgeon him with his stump. The movie itself also seems to be suffering from Statham’s malady as it’s filled with constant quick cut editing, frantic camerawork and a blaring soundtrack. Though like Statham, the flick starts to wear down near the end, but the finale where Statham freefalls from a helicopter is pretty tight. It’s the movie that proves the rule: Any movie in which the main character headbangs to “Achy Breaky Heart” is a classic.
