Director Ang Lee’s beautiful looking kung fu movie has Chow Yun-Fat as a retired warrior whose sword is stolen by a thief. He is also in love with Michelle Yeoh, but his warrior code prohibits him from showing his feelings. Enter a young princess (Zhang Ziyi) who befriends Yeoh and dreams of becoming a warrior just like her. The film’s spectacular fight scenes (in a bar, on the treetops, on top of the water) were done by Yuen Woo Ping who also choreographed the fight scenes in The Matrix. Fat is great as always and so is Ziyi. This flick has it all: romance, action, sword fighting, and humor. It was winner of the Best Foreign Film Oscar. Lee directed The Hulk next.
