THE DAY THE SKY EXPLODED (1958) *

The Italians can do horror like it’s nobody’s business but they don’t know balls when it comes to sci-fi. This dull disaster drama is all about the consequences of a misfired rocket that was shot into outer space. It causes a chain reaction of tidal waves, fires and meteor showers back on Earth. The so-called brilliant scientists’ solution? Send up another rocket to destroy it! Even the awful dubbing (like on that bratty kid) can’t save it. Mario (Twitch of the Death Nerve) Bava was the cinematographer, but don’t hold that against him.
