The success of Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars in 1964 sparked a wave of “Spaghetti Westerns”; Italian made cowboy movies, in the late 60’s. This one stars John Phillip (Barbarella) Law as a man who wants revenge on the gang who murdered his family when he was a little boy. Lee Van Cleef is also looking for the gang, because they framed him for murder. Whenever Law goes up against one of the gang members, there’s a red tinted flashback loaded with camera zooms. The gang members include: a big time gambler, a railroad tycoon (who has a trap door in his office) and a pair of bandito brothers. In the end, we learn that Van Cleef was also part of the gang. The final shootout in a sandstorm is pretty damn cool and this is definitely one of the best of the Leone imitators. Ennio Morricone did the music too, and also for the Dollars Trilogy, which also starred Van Cleef. Also starring Anthony (Dr. No) Dawson.
