LAKE PLACID 2 (2007) ** ½

Confession Time:  I never saw Lake Placid 1.  It always looked to me like an enjoyable sort of Killer Crocodile Movie, but I just never found the time to watch it.  Fortunately for me, I caught Part 2 and 3 on SyFy Channel the other night.  All I know is that Part 2 was just entertaining enough for me to put the original on my Netflix Queue.

There is a giant Killer Crocodile running loose in a small town chowing down on people left and right.  Sheriff John (The Dukes of Hazzard) Schneider and a douche bag big game hunter (Sam McMurray) grudgingly join forces to turn the man-eating croc into luggage.  Little do they know there are multiple crocs roaming around and they’re HUNGRY.

As far as made for SyFy Channel sequels go; you can certainly do a heck of a lot worse than Lake Placid 2.  It delivers on the gore (severed arms, heads, etc.) and some of the attempts at humor actually manage to be kinda funny.  Sure, you still have to put up with the same annoying teenage characters and shoddy CGI monsters you’ve come to expect from SyFy Channel Originals, but you’ve got to take the good with the bad I guess.

What really makes the flick enjoyable is the enormously entertaining performance by Schneider.  He hasn’t been in anything of note since he left Hazzard County (unless you watch that Smallville crap that is) and that’s kind of a shame because he’s pretty funny in this movie.  He also gets the best line of the flick.  Right before he blows up a croc, he says, “After awhile crocodile!”
