FORBIDDEN ZONE (1980) **

75 minutes of pure weirdness. It’s like a crazy mix of 30’s cartoons, Rocky Horror, Flash Gordon, performance art, and Monty Python. Herve (Fantasy Island) Villechez and Susan (Angel) Tyrell star as the rulers of Forbidden Zone, where there’s a toad man, non-stop comic sex and Satan (Danny Elfman). If it didn’t try so damn hard to be a cult movie, and actually made a lick of sense, it might have worked. At least Joe (Maniac) Spinell is in it. Elfman, later a big time film composer, and his band Oingo Boingo provided the excellent score as well as the kick ass theme song. Elfman’s brother Richard directed.
