GALAXY OF TERROR (1981) *** ½

This flick will forever go down in the annals of B movie history as the movie where Joanie Cunningham gets eviscerated by alien tentacles.

Yes, Happy Days are here again.

Roger Corman’s cheapo Alien rip-off is dumb as hell, but it DOES deliver the goodies when it comes to seeing your favorite B Movie stars buying the farm. Besides Erin Moran, you get Zalman King! Edward Albert! Ray Walston! Sid Haig! And a pre-Freddy Kruger Robert Englund (who fights himself, a.k.a. his obvious stand-in).

When the crew of a rescue ship lands on a mysterious planet, they must confront their biggest fears (or so the movie says), but they all must fear big slimy aliens cuz that’s what does all the terrorizing. Arms are hacked off and attack their former owner (6 years before Evil Dead 2). A slimy slug rapes a comely female. People walk into the airlock and get real messy (16 years before Event Horizon). It’s too dark and don’t make a lick of sense, but don’t let that ruin your enjoyment. Besides any movie that blatantly uses stock footage and old sets from Battle Beyond the Stars is worth watching at least once.

James Cameron was 2nd Unit Director.
